Three years ago is when I started my
freelance writing career. It was a time of keywords stuffed into web
content like birthday cake shoved into the mouth of a 4-year-old.
Over the past two years, Google has put a stop to that kind of
keyword overload. They want value-rich content that provide
information for the viewer.
As a web user, that's great news. No
more searching for information only to find 17 sites that are packed
with useless information and an overload of keywords. As a writer,
it's even better news. Clients no longer ask for copy filled with
suggested keywords that make no sense within the allotted 300 or 500
words they request.
Now that I'm creating niche sites of my
own, it's yet another perspective on keywords and back links as well.
While keywords are not an issue, backlinks might be. Google is
supposed to give more love to backlinks from quality sites, but yet I
see many sites in my new niche that can't be considered quality.
The hypnotism site will need more
content, but I'll also have to work on creating more back links than
my competitors. But I'll have to do it using methods that I'm
comfortable with and not spammy commenting and spammy links. I hope
the Google gods will smite those other sites with lightning so I can
get my site ranked properly!
